Špela and Maša Debevc, the sister duo responsible for the unique deliciousness that makes the Kürtőskalács so special, learned about the traditional recipe during their stay in Prague. They loved it and decided to bring the recipe to Ljubljana only adding two extra ingredients – their love and attention.

Špela and Maša, opened the bakery in the very center of the town with their partners in July 2018. In fact, it all happened very quickly, they explain.

“I always wanted to have something of my own, first a bakery, then a pub, and in the end, this opportunity was offered. So I thought, If we don’ do this, others will” explains older sister Špela, a
chef by profession who has been working in a variety of roles since she was 15.

Her younger sister, who recently became a mum for the first time, added that she herself has always enjoyed baking, but not as professionally as Špela. She is an interior designer and decorated their restaurant herself.

“I’ve designed logos, price lists, and whiteboards. I make flyers, and I'm also in marketing.”
